'Blade Runner' (1982)

Why it's so great: An expensive arthouse film that flopped on its initial release, Ridley Scott's visionary sci-fi noir starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer still looks modern almost 30 years later.

Remake-o-meter says
: Yeah yeah, a quasi-sequel is potentially on the way, but just think how bad an actual remake could turn out to be. If an update is unavoidable, studios would be smart to go back to the source material -- Philip K. Dick's rich novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" was very loosely adapted for the '82 film. Even better, pick another Dick novel or short story to adapt -- there are plenty of other good ones.
