'Midnight Run' (1988)

Why it's so great: A hysterical dark comedy/buddy movie about an ornery bounty hunter (Robert De Niro, at his funniest) dragging a smart, sneaky, dry-witted con man (Charles Grodin) across the U.S. One of the best laughers of the '80s.

Remake-o-meter says: A remake could potentially work if the cast is right and it manages to approximate the deadpan humor and violence of the original. But why bother when the '88 version is so spot-on?
