How to fix it: Sommers is capable of making spirited silly popcorn movies, and his work on "G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra" was far more fun than the thin script demanded. He's got to work with better material, though, and we'll see what happens this year with his adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel "Odd Thomas." Maybe he'll finally make something with a little more heart and soul with his long-promised update of "When Worlds Collide," or maybe he'll find a script that can use his no-doubt-about-it eye for large-scale mayhem in service of something deeper. Whatever the case, it feels like he's whiffed some big opportunities in the past, and needs to connect with something and soon.
