'Big Hero 6' vs. 'Interstellar'
Release date: Nov. 7, 2014
Longview Winner: "Interstellar"
Longview Loser: "Big Hero 6"
Should either film move off the date: "Big Hero 6"
Lowdown: Disney and Marvel need to seriously reconsider this date. "Big Hero 6" is Marvel's first animated adaptation of any of their properties. The problem is it's not well known even to comic book fans and in many ways Disney will be counting on the Marvel brand to launch it. "Interstellar" is Christopher Nolan's first film since "The Dark Knight Returns," features an all-star cast, will have both commercial and Oscar hype and could easily pull off an "Inception"-like $62 million debut. Moreover, "Interstellar" will be an event and Disney/Marvel needs some of that audience to make "Big Hero 6" an event as well. If Disney was smart they would try to scare 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky's "Home" off Thanksgiving or try to open in the middle of October. Just a suggestion fellas.
