WINNER AND LOSER: 'Duck Dynasty'
What Went Right and Wrong in 2013: After the season 3 premiere became A&E's top-rated reality series of the year, it was all uphill from there -- the season 4 premiere broke all records with 11.8 million viewers, making it the most watched reality TV show in basic cable history. Things went downhill, of course, when family patriarch Phil Robertson made comments condemning homosexuality during an interview with GQ magazine.
What's Ahead in 2014: Who knows? A&E has suspended Robertson indefinitely, while the rest of the family has come forward to say they won't do the show without him. Robertson hasn't suffered the same corporate backlash as Paula Deen -- Cracker Barrel briefly dropped "Duck Dynasty" merchandise from their shops, then reversed the decision due to public outcry. Now we just have to watch to see how the stand-off between the network and the family plays out -- and, when the show returns (whatever happens with Robertson, season five premieres Jan. 13), how (or if) the ratings are impacted.
