Will anybody try to pull another 'Beyonce?'
We were asking this same question at the beginning of 2014, and it's still fairly pertinent now. Thom Yorke's album on BitTorrent and D'Angelo's "Black Messiah" were among of the biggest surprise albums of the year, while Madonna's sudden six-song drop was an act against leaks. But nothing compared in 2014 to the scale of 2013's late-game "Beyonce" -- arriving with that level of interest, with music videos and big sales thereafter to boot.
Likely outcome: Kanye West, Rihanna and Adele have all been names bandied about as good contenders for this kind of whammy. But if anybody's going to out-do Beyonce, it's Beyonce herself -- and maybe Jay Z, who had a similar guerilla style about his "Magna Carta..." in 2013, too. Maybe that long-rumored duet album?
