Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting - 'Gangs of New York'
It may seem like cheating to have two villains portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis on this list, but it's really just a testament to his intimidating onscreen presence. His performance here is easily the best part of Martin Scorsese's hit-and-miss "Gangs of New York." As Bill Cutting, the "native" who terrorizes recent Irish immigrants in New York on the eve of the Civil War, Day-Lewis displays the dark side of the American dream that has been there since the very beginning.
