The Joker? Magneto? Anton Chigurh? Who made the list?
Magneto - 'X-Men'
Some of the greatest villains in literature or on the big screen are actually the ones you can sympathize with (to an extent). Magneto has always had a special place in the hearts of X-Man fans not because of his powers, but because his methods are mostly misguided. In "X-Men," "X2: X-Men United" and "X-Men: The Last Stand," legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen plays Erik Lehnsherr, a Nazi concentration camp survivor who is determined to make sure mutants never suffer like his family did - no matter what the cost. Matthew Fassbender portrayed Magneto in "X-Men: First Class," showing how years of hunting down the officers who killed his family hardened his world view. Both actors would tell you Magneto really isn't a villain, and in some ways they'd be absolutely right.
