Doctor Octopus - 'Spider-Man 2'
Spider-Man has always had one of the more interesting companies of rogues, but in "Spider-Man 2" director Sam Raimi and Alfred Molina turned Doctor Octopus into one of the more memorable superhero villains ever. Part of the appeal is how the visual and physical effects masterfully brought Octupus' mechanical arms to life (something few Spidey fans ever thought would be possible), but much of it also came from Molina's mesmerizing and sympathetic performance. One of Peter Parker's scientific idols, Otto Octavius is obsessed with success, but hardly evil. When he becomes bonded with his tentacles, they bring the dark side of his personality to life. And in the end, it's only Octavius who can save the day by defying his extra "arms" and sacrificing himself to save the city. Octopus is arguably one of the most three-dimensional villains anyone has seen in a superhero movie, in this century or any other.
