Is the fourth time not the charm?
Best: Michael Bay's gratuitous robot ultra-violence
One of the truly scandalous examples of the way the ratings board doesn't really rate content is the ongoing PG-13 of the "Transformers" series. I have openly talked about the things I like about the film, and I am first to admit that the violence that robot does to robot in these films is "Robocop" uncut violent. It is seriously out of control violent. It is the original uncut "Maniac" violent. It is horrifying. But it's robot on robot. So it's... okay.
Right? I think the third film ended with Optimus Prime murdering Sentinel Prime and Megatron, and then pulling at least one of their spines out. As you do. When you completely obliterate your enemy from existence. It's basically "Game Of Thrones" violent, but only for robots. At this point, we're so amazed by what he can get away with that we want to see him keep pushing it further. There are some explicit robot deaths this time around that should be viewed less as a toy commercial and more as a non-organic version of "American Psycho."
