Worst: Is that Asgard or Rivendell?
When Alan Taylor came on board "Thor: The Dark World," he discussed wanting to bring a more realistic view of Thor's native land, Asgard. Like "Game of Thrones," he thought a little more grit would bring it to life. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Taylor or Marvel that the best part of "Thor" was that glorious, shining vision of Asgard that Branagh helped steer. You believed that this was a world Earthlings would see as a home of the gods. It had wonder and scope. Granted, there are some nice shots of Asgard in "The Dark World," but it mostly looks like it's been sanded down with dust and grime. Some shots look like someone snuck some plates from WETA work on "Lord of the Rings" or "The Hobbit." Others make the sets of "GoT" look Oscar worthy. Yes, that dungeon design was nice, but bring back our shining city please.
