Best: Crazypants Electric Candyland version of Russian history
Sure, we got the Sergei Eisenstein-inspired footage, but the really awesome part was when we moved into the bat[expletive] crazy segment of neon-clad dancers, people running round in enormous foam structures, and inflatable candy colored onion domes of fun. It was all apparently walking us through the history of Russia somehow, but it also looked like what Alice in Wonderland saw after eating the wacky mushroom. It was psychedelic, it was fun, it was unexpected. Given that much of the Opening Ceremony seemed a little staid and self-consciously serious, we needed this moment of trippy good fun.
