Worst: "Miss Julie"
Jessica Chastain. Colin Farrell. Samantha Morton. All three are incredibly talented actors who should be able to bring some magic to even the driest of material. Unfortunately, Liv Ullmann's big screen adaptation of August Strindberg's play isn't one of them. Chastain clearly has a take on the character and, erupts in one mighty impressive scene towards the latter half of the movie. The problem is that Ullmann can't divorce the play from its theatrical origins enough. At least half of the movie takes place in a servant's kitchen (we're not kidding). It's also just one scene after another of whining exposition. Farrell can be good in the right role, but thanks to the material he's about as engaging as nails on a chalkboard. An unfortunate misfire to say the least.
