Best and Worst of the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards
Worst - Rude indie audiences
It seems like it's this way every year, at both the Gotham Awards and the Indie Spirits. It's one thing for the production to fight the crowd and get them to sit down before the show starts. That's always a battle. But these audiences just can't shut the hell up at the start of the show, and often times DURING the show (remember Lee Daniels calling them out at the Gothams recently?). At the Spirits this year, Patton Oswalt was basically screaming his monologue over the rude conversations going on throughout the tent. Same thing during the "20 Feet from Stardom" singers' performance, and it's just poor form. Yeah, it's a looser show, but you had an hour of cocktails and an hour and a half of dinner. Haven't you said all you need to say by the time the show starts? Sit down. Shut up.
