Best - Cate Blanchett's acceptance speech
Cate Blanchett has pulled back a bit in phase two. After her Santa Barbara fete, with the Woody Allen stuff flying around, and with fellow actor Philip Seymour Hoffman to grieve for, things just shifted down a bit. She popped back up at the BAFTAs and she had refreshing things to say in her acceptance speech at the Spirit Awards. Best of all was her tip of the hat to a conspicuously missing actress in the leading lady line-up, particularly since there were six male nominees (surely due to a tie) and only five female. "Did no one see Greta Gerwig in 'Frances Ha?,'" she asked, flummoxed. Instant cool points for shouting out one of the best films, and best performances, of the year.
