Best: The adrenaline kick of 'Wild Tales'
It seems appropriate that this was the 20th anniversary of the moment when "Pulp Fiction" hit the Croisette like a tidal wave, because Damien Szifran's crazy, hilarious, passionately angry anthology film about the various ways modern life can push us to our breaking points has the same sort of mad, delirious energy. Cannes is a festival that loves the serious, the dark, and the difficult, which makes a movie like "Wild Tales" feel even more exciting. Just because something makes you laugh doesn't mean it's any less great than a solemn, somber character piece, and there are very few things that left me as giddy as this during the festival.
