Worst: Filmmakers who want it too much
Unlike any other festivals that has a competition slate, the prestige of winning a Palm honor or "the" Palm -- the Palm d'Or - makes smart directors say some dumb things. This year, Montreal's infant terrible Xavier Dolan, who has a horrible habit of putting his foot in his mouth, generated a tremendous amount of goodwill with his competition feature "Mommy." He also showed little humility during the press conference after in telling the press he should win the Palm d'Or on behalf of his "generation" and Naomi Kawase, the director of "Still is the Water," was even more blatant. The Japanese filmmaker, returning to Cannes for the third time called her film "my masterpiece" and remarked, "there is nothing I want more than the Palme D'Or. I have my eyes on nothing else." Even Oscar nominees don't admit to wanting it that much. (It's worth noting Dolan earned a third place jury prize.)
