It was a good slate of films north of the border this year
Worst: You Are Here
Not to beat a dead horse, but Matthew Weiner's directorial debut was one of the worst received films at this year's festival. It's that simple and it wasn't personal. Audiences and critics were hoping, even rooting for the "Mad Men" creator to make a successful jump from the small screen to the big screen. Unfortunately, Weiner's passion project about two buddies getting their lives back on track couldn't decide what it wanted to be. A drama? A comedy? A farce? The only filmmaker who's been able to make that mix work is another TV veteran, James L. Brooks, and even he's really only done it twice. Weiner recruited an intriguing cast including Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler, but halfway through the film you just wish it would end to save them from further embarrassment. Yeah, it's that bad.
