Best: Dallas Buyer's Club
Inspired by a true story, Jean-Marc Vallee's moving drama centers on Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey), an HIV positive man who made it his mission to get as many potential treatments to his Dallas community in the mid 1980's. The movie is a triumph not only due to McConaughey's career best performance, but a heartbreaking turn by Jared Leto as a transgender person battling HIV and drug addiction. Vallee's bold direction ensures the story avoids the movie of the week cliches and, more importantly, doesn't sugarcoat the epidemic's horrific treatment by the FDA. It's not just an actor's showcase, it's a film that makes sure a moment in history won't be forgotten.
