Worst: Scarlett Johansson and Alan Cumming, plus other bad banter
We get why you want Scarlett Johansson and Alan Cumming on the stage at the Tonys. She's a movie star and her presence on the red carpet guarantees exposure. He's a star of a CBS show. Oh and they both had high profile Broadway productions this season and, given the affection Tony voters have for big names, you'd have thought both were locks for recognition. Instead, she was snubbed for "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and he was snubbed for "MacBeth." But why bother making that the only point of discussion in their brief banter? He said something sour about people not nominated giving awards to people who were and she looked uncomfortable. Nobody laughed. And nobody in the audience stood up and said, "Oh come on! You're both Tony winners. Just be pretty and gracious." Very few of the presenting duos had any chemistry or any material to play with. Guess all the good banter (and some of the bad) was saved for Neil Patrick Harris.
