Best: Daniel Day-Lewis does comedy
It's not that Daniel Day-Lewis hasn't periodically been funny on the big screen, but our perception of the three-time Oscar winner is one of almost terrifying Method intensity. So who wasn't amused and surprised by Day-Lewis reflecting on presenter Meryl Streep and saying, "Three years ago, before we decided to do a straight swap, I had actually been committed to playing Margaret Thatcher... And Meryl was Steven's first choice for 'Lincoln.' I'd like to see that version." But Lewis wasn't done there. He joked about an original conception of "Lincoln" as a musical and about all of the strange personalities his wife Rebecca has had to live with over the years. And every punchline was delivered with the consummate timing and professionalism of a guy who has been called his generation's best actor for decades. Wouldn't it be great to see Paul Thomas Anderson return to "Punch Drunk Love" comedy mode with Daniel Day-Lewis starring?
