Best and Worst: Bradley Cooper
Despite the fact that I couldn't quite jump on the "Silver Linings Playbook" bandwagon, I've always thought Bradley Cooper was the best part about the film and deserved awards season love. But after a National Board of Review win and maybe this and that, he didn't really win any major prizes along the circuit. So this was a nice moment for him, I thought. Nevertheless, his speech -- which focused on the message publicity used to drive the "importance" of the movie during the season, regarding post-traumatic stress disorder, or autism, or bipolar disorder, depending on the day -- could have been a little more upbeat. I don't doubt Cooper feels stronger about these issues as a result of starring in the film, but you could totally sense the energy get sucked out of the room when he started getting into it. At least he was able to bring some levity back around with the Best Kiss win.
