Simply spectacular. Turning a green, pastoral landscape the size of a football field into an industrial revolution factory in less than 15 min? Then pulling four gigantic rings across the stadium adding one from the ground? Startling.

PLEASE EDIT 'Best: The Lore' - It's a 'Tor', not a 'Lore' (as in 'Glastonbury Tor')

For me the worst bit was Paul McCartney. It seems for every event we have in the UK he is dragged out and you hear the same tired routine. He's had his time, let's bring out the new faces.

Great as it was to see Muhammad Ali up there, the BIGGEST surprise was The Queen (not a stand-in) acquiescing to taking part in the Bond skit. That's unprecedented!! Well done Danny Boyle; job's a good 'un!!

The opening ceremony didn't need to be all about the Olympics it was about Britain. The literature segment was great.

Of course it wasn't a let down to have Seven different young athletes light the torch. It seemed right considering the slogan is Inspire a Generation.
