Best: "Hugo" surprises offer at a tiny bit of drama
Oscar night was always going to be a celebration of "The Artist," the little silent movie that basically nobody in America has seen. However, due to smart arrangement of the categories to open the show, suddenly the Oscars became the "Hugo" show, as it knocked out wins for cinematography and art direction and visual effects (pictured) and two wins for sound. None of the wins was shocking, but as a pack, they made it look as if "Hugo" had momentum. It was an illusion, but it was an illusion that helped add a little bit of juice to the inevitability of the telecast.
