Plus: Some reasons why the show needs a format change
Worst: Overall show format
Where do we start? From the increasingly embarrassing "I'm an actor" intro to the elevator music cues to the random inclusion of a commercial actor montage (and a lame one at that) to the terrible order of the awards, this show was in many ways a mess. We understand that SAG and TNT prefer not to have a host in order to keep the whole event under two hours, but when the much less relevant Critic's Choice Awards is more entertaining than your telecast you've got problems. Usually, the show survives by one or two charismatic winners, a major upset or a great lifetime achievement speech (see Betty White last year). When that doesn't happen, it's pretty painful to watch.
And on a side note, if the Globes can mix up the order of movie and television awards so that there is at least some drama in the TV races at the end, can't SAG? If I were a TV nominee this year I could have gone home one hour in!
