Best and Worst: Cee Lo Green/Gwyneth Paltrow/Muppets
There won't be a person in North America that hasn't seen Cee Lo Green's Elton John redux on YouTube by noon tomorrow, and certainly it's worthy water cooler fodder. "Forget You" is no perfect substitute for its original "Fuck You," but at least the fun-loving spirit persisted in the performance. While Barbra Streisand and Miranda Lambert's pieces in the show provided elements of intimacy and subdued ease, this was the part where we celebrate.
That being said, the Muppets were underutilized, a wasted opportunity, as they took back seat to Cee Lo and Gwyneth Paltrow's oil-and-water chemistry. Paltrow, who sounds lovely in "Country Strong" had trouble with her pitch (but not with her confidence) during "Forget You," and seemed much more interested in becoming a Serious Artist than having a little more fun. Hint: brightly-colored feather earrings don't count much toward fun.
