Best and Worst of the 2010 Toronto Film Festival: 'Black Swan,' 'Rabbit Hole,' 'Trust'
Which of these movies will hit your hometown?
Best: I Saw The Devil
Why: Because Kim Ji-Woon is one of the best filmmakers working right now, and because you probably still haven't seen his last film "The Good, The Bad & The Weird," and you should have, and because it's an absolutely stunning film that explores the age-old adage of "do not look too long into the abyss, for the abyss also looks back into you." Byung-hun Lee and Min-sik Choi are two of the most exciting movie stars in the world, and they're a great match-up in this story of a serial killer being chased by a secret agent who happens to be the fiancee of one of the killer's victims. The film goes some crazy places, and it's always compelling and spectacularly made.
Will you see this in a theater near you? Maybe. IFC picked it up, which means you'll get a chance to see it on-demand for sure, but a film this impeccably crafted deserves some big-screen playdates, and I hope this gets more than just a cursory release to theaters.
