Best: Scarlett Johansson...duh
Right now, if you're talking about "Her" or "Under The Skin" or "Don Jon" or "The Winter Soldier" or "Hitchcock" or "Chef," Scarlett Johansson is consistently doing work that is emotionally nuanced, finely attuned to the tone of the particular project, appealing and making big choices. I think the performance she gives in "Under The Skin" is exceptional. She makes such specific physical choices, and she seems to carefully build these characters from a million little details. As she levels up in "Lucy," she carefully distinguishes each stage, shedding her humanity like that girl running down the beach at the start of "Jaws." It may be a traumatic origin for Lucy, but from that point on, she voluntarily plunges headlong into her hyper-evolution, and Johnasson makes it a human journey to a posthuman destination.
