There is a conversation that Anne Hathaway's character has about how love fits into science as a force that can't be quantified and it's that exact moment that I got a sinking feeling that this would be yet another science fiction film where big ideas are raised only to be brushed aside for fairly simple platitudes about love. It's become such a cliche that I thought there was no way Nolan would actually try to tie it all together in the end. It makes me wonder if he saw "Contact," because he had a chance to avoid the mistake that film mistakes by doing the exact same thing. There is a hefty emotional punch to the conclusion of "Interstellar," but it's at the expense of much bigger and more interesting science-fiction ideas.
