Best: Noah Taylor, Brendan Gleeson and Bill Paxton flesh out the universe
"Edge of Tomorrow" is very much Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt's movie and, at times, it almost feels like a two-hander, despite the epic trappings. While a lot of the supporting characters are just simple comic relief and you don't come away remembering their names or the actors who played them, the sense that this isn't a wholly insular universe comes courtesy of veterans Noah Taylor, Brendan Gleeson and Bill Paxton, who provided scruff, live-in humor that elevates the movie around them. Gleeson and Paxton have a great time bantering with Cruise as early adversaries and you sense that even if they were only on-set for a week apiece, they got a kick out of it. Taylor's character has more of a positive relationship with Cruise's character, but brings levity to a role that could have just been a pure exposition dump. I kinda wish all three actors had had more of a part in the last third of the movie.
