Do they think that the glee fans are going to be in san diego for anything but that? Hell even twilight, though they are just as fanatical. They need to get more selective before big studio fare like that starts smothering out the smaller companies who are really invested in the con. Its less comic con every year and more media con.
Dezbot It's been like that for years, unfortunately. The Con organizers need to learn to start saying "no." One of the Con employees told us that attendance was down by about 10,000 people per day this year, so that might be a sign that things will gradually improve, at least on the floor (where it was easier to move around for the first time in ages).

July 28, 2011 at 11:10AM EST Reply to CommentOh, they're not embarrassed by the lines--they do the panel scheduling that way on purpose. There's no other reason the Adult Swim panels, for example, keep getting shoved into the smaller rooms when they would clearly fill a much bigger space. And the TV panels only started drawing such big crowds in the last couple of years; it's not something they could have predicted, especially with companies like Warners pulling their movies at the last minute. I don't doubt they move shows like "True Blood," "Game of Thrones," and "Vampire Diaries" to Hall H next year, unless...THE DARK KNIGHT RISES comes and then all bets are off :-)
BTW, a friend who went Sunday said that there were about 1,000 less chairs in Hall H than on the other days. Not sure why they took out seats, unless they wanted it to look completely full all day so they could justify moving more TV panels into the bigger area.
Junshin They took out the seats because the studios holding the panels insisted that they be removed. The con organizers *want* to move many of the TV panels into H, but it's actually the studios who balk at it. Why? I don't know. But I heard it straight from the horse's mouth at the Sunday talkback panel. And it was easier to move about the floor this year because it was a different security company handling those issues this year. There weren't less attendees--there were more.

It was absolutely amazing to be in the presence of such amazing talent and creators, but Jason Momoa seriously needs to reel it in a bit. His rape joke and constant touching of his co-star Emilia Clarke made me really uncomfortable.

August 3, 2011 at 11:42PM EST Reply to CommentToo bad that the absence of certain stars at Comic-Con panels is represented here as a rude snub to the fans. Thirty years ago, an actor who made himself available to the public was considered really nice, but an actor who was more protective of his time was not seen as having robbed the public of its due.
Sure, they're privileged, and it's easy to want privileged people to make sacrifices, but we make them rich quite voluntarily. I don't see why that means fans deserve the stars' time whenever and however we want it. The entitlements of the consumer mindset seems boundless sometimes.
