'Knocked Up' (2007) and 'This Is Forty' (2012)
Family ties: Leslie Mann and daughters Iris and Maud Apatow (Judd Apatow directed)
Why it worked: When Judd Apatow needed to cast a nuclear family to compare and contrast with Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl's accidentally pregnant couple in "Knocked Up," he looked no further than his own wife and daughters, with Paul Rudd filling in for the father role. The partially-real family proved to be one of the highlights of the overstuffed film, and they returned for a more prominent role in 2012's "This Is 40." The girls have a relaxed presence on camera (no surprise there), and Rudd fits right in as the sometimes selfish but always-loving husband who butts heads with Mann as the often shrill but always-heartfelt wife.
