'Sugar & Spice' (2001)
Best part of the original: The concept.
Worst part of the original: The soft-pedaling script takes all the bite out of an edgy premise.
Why it deserves a remake: "Sugar & Spice" could've been a deliciously smart and dark comedy a la "Heathers," but the cheerleaders-as-bank-robbers plotline was reportedly toned down in the wake of the Columbine high school shooting spree. Understandable to a point, but a premise this subversive deserves a subversive take, and I'd love to see what a more sophisticated version of the story might look like.
