Contenders and Pretenders: Andrew Garfield, Natalie Portman, Javier Bardem

Our thoughts on the awards players halfway through the season

Contender Status: Not the lock we thought he'd be for a best supporting actor nomination for either "The Social Network" or "Never Let Me Go," but it's still possible.

Lowdown: Is it the hair or is Marc Webb making Garfield skip meals for "Spider-Man"?  Lord, we know Peter Parker is skinny, but this shouldn't be Christian Bale in "The Machinist."

You're wrong about "The Town". It's very vulnerable. It's in a battle for the final two spots. If it didn't make the top ten, it wouldn't be all that surprising.

I don't even see "The King'd Speech" as a possible Best Picture winner. "The Social Network" winning BP is probably the most assured thing come Oscar night.

Jonnybon The Town is vulnerable, yes. But The King's Speech is neck and neck with The Social Network. There is no frontrunner.

Andrew Garfield looks like Jean-Ralphio in that picture (and if you don't get that reference shame on you).
