Interview: Katie Stevens of 'American Idol'
HitFix: The judges have admitted this season that sometimes their comments have been conflicting. How do you handle that?
Katie Stevens: You know, I'm the type of person that I've always tried to please everybody, so I think in the first couple weeks that's where I was at fault. I was trying to listen to everything they were saying. And I've grown from their comments, but I definitely think that now I need to learn to pick and choose what to listen to and what to incorporate into my song choices for the next week.
HitFix: So what will you incorporate next week?
KS: I'm just going to show them the kind of artist that I am, because I know that's something they were confused about. I'm just going to try to be me and let that shine through.
HitFix: So what kind of artist are you?
KS: I want to be the kind of artist that's soulful and yet has a youthful edge to them.
HitFix: In your clip package a couple weeks ago, you got to show off your personality, got to be a bit of a goofball. Do you want to show more of that?
KS: That is me. When I'm joking around with my friends, I'm goofy. That's who I am, so that'll come through regardless.
HitFix: So what is your dream theme?
KS: I want to have a Disney theme week. Me being young, that's kind of a cliche for me to say, but I think it would be awesome to see everybody pick a Disney song and do it.
HitFix: And what theme would be a nightmare for you?
KS: If I had to rap, that would terrify me. I cannot rap for my life. I can beatbox a little. I think. Kinda. [She proceeds to beatbox.] That's the extent for that.
