"Notorious" has aged remarkably well, still considered one of Hitchcock's most enduring classics. Yet the film didn't register much with the Academy beyond a pair of nods. As a creepy refugee Nazi agent being spied on by the lovely Ingrid Bergman for the charming Cary Grant, Claude Rains racked up his fourth nod in eight years. It was part of a string that included work in films like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "Casablanca." Meanwhile, the original screenplay, with its edge-of-your-seat moments and unique love story, got a tip of the hat, too. "The Best Years of Our Lives" was the Academy's Best Picture pick that year, but this one remains a favorite among countless Hitchcock fans all these years later.
