You can't be serious in calling No Line on the Horizon U2's weakest album in memory. They could have put out another retread in the vein of Atomic Bomb or Leave Behind and instead, they went in an experimented in different styles and approach. Songs like the title track and Magnificent are some of the best in their career, in fact, most reviewers agreed. It didn't sell well, but since when are giant sales the arbiter of talent?
JH315-- I love your passion, but I am serious. As a longtime U2 fan, I couldn't WAIT for "No Line." There were certain songs that entranced me when I heard then, including "Magnificent," which I LOVED and still think "Moment of Surrender" is transcendent. However, radio never embraced the album and sales, while not a final arbiter, showed that the public did not either. I have seldom anticipated an album so much and then felt so let down after its arrival. It did not wear well with me or a lot of folks, but I'm digging it that you still love it so much!
Where is Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion? That deserves it far more than Green Day or even U2 (which I love, but No Line is no How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb). MPP is so original, I hope voters listen to this wildly creative, sonically breathtaking record
