We outline 11 artists who may be up for the Grammy when nominees are announced in December
Beyonce, “I… Am… Sasha Fierce†(Columbia)
The nominations for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards will be announced during a prime time concert on CBS Dec. 2. The Grammys will air Jan. 31, 2010, a few weeks earlier than usual in order not to collide with the Winter Olympics. What that means is that NARAS, the Grammys organizing body, shaved a month off the eligibility period, so only albums released between Oct. 1, 2008-Aug. 31, 2009 are eligible.
As always, the major trophy is for Album of the Year. Here are our contenders for the final five. Let the debate begin. Whom do you think we left off?
Although it was released so long ago that it may have escaped voters’ minds, no other eligible album has released a single that has captured the zeitgeist like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” but “Sasha Fierce” didn’t end there. It has spawned single after single and respect for Beyonce continues to grow.
