Thoughts: With J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness" in theaters, we would be remiss if we didn't mention Leonard Nimoy, who, with his cameo in the film, hops past William Shatner for most appearances in the franchise. Nimoy has suited up as Spock eight times (to Shatner's seven as Captain James T. Kirk) and indeed, it's the role that has defined the actor for decades. The new movie is very much a tip of the hat to "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" (and the Kirk/Spock dynamic therein). Quite clearly, Spock as a character has lived long and prospered.
