Sam the Eagle - 1984 Summer Games
When Los Angeles hosted the Olympics, America wasn't about to settle for anything less than the most American mascot to ever mascot. Enter Sam the Eagle. No not the Muppet one — though that would've been 1000 times cooler. Way to drop the ball California. But a Bald Eagle wasn't America enough. So they gave him an American flag-clad top hat and bow tie which just looked ostentatious but whatever. Everything would've been fine if not for the fact the dead-eyed stare coupled with the way the costume was put together makes it look like Sam is constantly flipping everyone the bird…which hey, is pretty American too, I guess.
