Schneeman the Snowman - 1976 Winter Games
Sure there were mascots prior to Schneeman the Snowman — Waldi the dachshund, the first official Olympic mascot debuted at the 1972 Summer Games and before him there were a slew of unofficial mascots — but the tradition of traumatizing kids and adults alike didn't hit its stride until the 1976 Winter Games. It was then this monstrosity was introduced. Why organizers thought his soulless eyes symbolized the 'Games of Simplicity' and not the obvious 'ALL HAIL HRIMTHURS RULERS OF ETERNAL WINTER' is anyone's guess.
