Will The Weinstein Company get shut out?
After dominating awards season and the Academy Awards for the last three years ("Argo's" win for Best Picture notwithstanding), it looks like it could be a very quiet night for The Weinstein Company on March 2. "Philomena" earned four nominations and its best shot is in adapted screenplay where it needs to upset frontrunner "12 Years a Slave" and another up-and-comer, "The Wolf of Wall Street." "August: Osage County" earned nominations for Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, but neither have a realistic shot at winning. Harvey Weinstein is a partner in RADiUS-TWC and that company has a shot at Best Documentary Feature for "20 Feet from Stardom," but The Weinstein Company itself? We're gonna look forward to "Grace of Monaco" opening Cannes and a directors' cut of "Snowpiercer" getting a U.S. release. Harvey will be back and likely with vengeance.
