So, what were the people of District 12 mining coal for?
We’ve long established that each District in in charge of one thing the Capitol needs: fishing, grain, lumber, coal. Overlooking how such precision specialization makes it painfully easy to disrupt the system — obviously — what were the people of District 12 risking their lives in the coal mines for? It sure wasn’t to power the Capitol. Were the other Districts running off coal? Or, more likely, were you killing the poor to ship coal to District 1 to be converted into diamonds for jewelry?
