Plot: A nerdish boy buys a strange car with an evil mind of its own and his nature starts to change to reflect it.
John Carpenter's adaptation of King's 1983 novel about a possessed Plymouth Fury had a few good sequences and looked fantastic, but ultimately it didn't stick the landing. The main problem: it just wasn't scary enough. I'd love to see a filmmaker take a page from Steven Spielberg's "Duel" (perhaps the scariest killer auto flick of all time) and juice this up with the kind of throat-clutching supernatural dread that characterizes King's best work.
Has anyone already remade or tried to remake this? "Disturbia" screenwriter Christopher Landon was previously attached to pen a second adaptation, but there's been no movement on the project in several years.
