How we first him: Eventually known mostly as Carole's abusive husband, Ed is introduced in the show's third episode as probably the least appealing member of the camp that gave us many of our original core characters.
How he died: Ignominiously. He pokes out to yell at Carole and nom-nom-nom. He also gets a pickaxe to the head to add brain-piercing to injury.
Why his death mattered: Carole's journey from cowed, terrified wife to calculating, Ripley-style badass has been one of the show's most interesting and Ed's death was a necessary catalyst.
