13. "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Jude Law, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel, Lea Seydoux, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jason Schwartzman, F. Murray Abraham
Expected debut: Berlin
Why: One of the few films on this list that we'll be seeing sooner rather than later, Anderson's latest all-star cinematic circus will kick off the Berlin Film Festival in grand style next month -- a cheerily welcome curtain-raiser for a festival that sometimes wants for sparkle. We've seen the trailer, poster and various images by now, so we all have some idea what to expect: A-list actors letting their hair down over a bitty, free-wheeling narrative, as dazzlingly color-coded art direction swirls around them. (The premise, such as it is: assorted hijinks at a European hotel run by Ralph Fiennes, set between two World Wars.) Sometimes that formula turns out charming, sometimes a little too precious, but when the whole confection looks this scrumptious, it'll be fun to watch either way.
