Lowdown: Let's ignore all the new cast members for a moment. Just watching what's happening with Kick-Ass (Taylor-Johnson), Hit Girl (Moretz), and the artist formerly known as Red Mist (Mintz-Plasse) would be worth getting excited about; all three actors have been given juicy, thematically exciting parts to play, and writer/director Jeff Wadlow has brought his own visceral ideas to the shooting of the action this time around. But then you add in Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars'n'Stripes (a performance that is "Cable Guy" twisted), Clark Duke getting a superhero costume of his own, and you top that all off with Kurkulina, a Russian bodybuilder who makes her film debut here as Mother Russia, and it adds up to a sequel that I think is going to satisfy fans of the first and convert people who aren't already onboard.
