25. 'Before Midnight'

Director: Richard Linklater
Cast: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy
Release Date: Sundance Premiere - January 20; no release date set
Lowdown: Richard Linklater reunites once more with Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke for the third film in the ongoing story of Jesse and Celine, and while the writing credits have evolved (Kim Krizan, who co-wrote the original is long gone, and Hawke and Delpy are now fully credited co-writers), the essential appeal remains the same: these are two smart, attractive people with a very strong chemistry between them, and we want to see if they finally realize what they mean to one another. There's no other film series like it, and it is one of the most exciting titles in the Sundance line-up this year.

You missed out on some movies that are sure to grasp attention: "Gangster Squad" -- Sean Penn will have a career-defining performance; "A Place Beyond the Pines" -- Gosling/Cooper both at the top of their game; "Zero Dark Thirty" -- in some ways it could be considered a 2012 release, but it was limited to specific theaters and should be thought of as a 2013 release.

Kinda surprised that David O. Russell's next is not here. Annapurna backed scam with political undertones story with an Oscar winner and 3 Oscar nominees plus Russell's hot streak lately? Sounds like an Awards contender.

Spike Lee is going to butcher Old Boy. The Korean film is brilliant...

Tedd I saw it very recently for the first time and kinda hated everything about the big revelation and resolution of the film, and it's hard to imagine they'll change any of that, so much as I love Spike Lee, I think I'm probably going to have to skip it.

G.I.Joe/Retaliation, The Hobbit-Desolation of Smaug, Monsters University After Earth? All these should at least be in the top 25!
