In blockbusters or art house entries, these careers could kick it into high gear
Previously seen: If you're aware of Mbatha-Raw at all it's probably from her small-screen work in TV series like "Undercovers" and "Touch," though she's also popped up in films such as Tom Hanks' "Larry Crowne" and Stephen Sommers' "Odd Thomas."
Expected breakout role: As a little-known historical figure in British period drama "Belle" (May 2 - limited release)
Why: Mbatha-Raw gets a very unique opportunity in "Belle" to portray Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay and an enslaved African woman in the late 18th Century. Precious little is known about her and the film itself was actually inspired by a painting of Belle with her cousin. It's already receiving some great notices and could spark audiences to Mbatha-Raw's work going forward, or at the very least provide her with more leading opportunities to reach that level of recognition.
