Tom Hanks and the Coen Brothers snubbed as 'Gravity' and 'Hustle' win big
Winner and Loser - Harvey Weinstein
The success of "Philomena" including its best picture nomination had to be a huge sigh of relief to Harvey Weinstein and his TWC team. The fact Meryl Streep made the best actress cut after signs pointed to a possible snub is also another big "whew" for the awards-friendly mini-major. What isn't so great is all the attention and effort put towards an "August: Osage County" best picture nomination only led to two acting nods for the movie. Moreover, somehow "Lee Daniels' The Butler" didn't get a big enough push to help the venerable Oprah Winfrey earn a supporting actress nomination. Nor was summer sensation "Fruitvale Station" able to find any love at all. TWC obviously spread itself too thin, but the company had now landed a best picture nomination for six straight years. That's still something to celebrate.
